The Philippines is preparing to roll out a new digital nomad visa, offering remote workers the opportunity to live and work in the country for up to one year, with the possibility of renewal. Announced by President Bongbong Marcos on April 28, 2025, through Executive Order No. 86, the initiative aims to invigorate tourism and stimulate economic growth by attracting foreign professionals who can work remotely.

To be eligible for the visa, applicants must be non-immigrant foreigners at least 18 years old, capable of proving remote work and sufficient foreign income, possess valid health insurance, and have no criminal record. Importantly, applicants must not be employed by any Philippine-based entity or pose a security threat.

While applications are not yet open, the government is actively preparing to launch the program soon. With its 7,600 islands, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture, the Philippines seeks to position itself as an attractive destination for digital nomads seeking a tropical work-life balance. This move aligns the country with others like South Korea, Italy, Japan, and Thailand, which have introduced similar initiatives to attract remote workers.

The introduction of the digital nomad visa reflects a broader global trend of countries adapting to the evolving work landscape, recognizing the economic potential of attracting remote professionals. By facilitating legal avenues for digital nomads, the Philippines not only aims to boost its economy but also to enrich its cultural tapestry through increased international engagement.
