Google’s new Googlebook laptops are now available, bringing Gemini AI directly into a new class of premium laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Starting at $899, Googlebook combines Gemini Intelligence, Android integration and on-device AI hardware in an attempt to redefine Google’s laptop platform.

What is Googlebook?

Googlebook is Google’s new laptop category designed specifically around Gemini Intelligence.

Unlike traditional Chromebooks, Googlebook combines technology from Android and ChromeOS with premium laptop hardware. Google says the goal is to make AI a core part of the desktop experience rather than simply another application.

The first Googlebooks are available from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with prices starting at $899.

What AI features does Googlebook offer?

Googlebook introduces several AI features designed to work directly within the laptop interface.

Magic Pointer lets users activate Gemini by moving the cursor and selecting content on the screen. Rambler uses voice input to turn spoken thoughts into organized text, while Create My Widget can generate customized desktop widgets through natural-language prompts.

Google also says Gemini can work across tasks such as organizing information, finding content and helping users move from an idea to an action without constantly switching applications.

Does Googlebook run AI locally?

Yes, although not every Gemini capability runs entirely on the laptop.

The first Googlebooks use Intel and Qualcomm processors with dedicated NPUs capable of more than 45 TOPS, allowing supported AI workloads to run on the device. Google is also combining local processing with its cloud-based Gemini services.

This hybrid approach means buyers shouldn’t treat Googlebook as a purely offline AI laptop. Instead, Google is trying to make local and cloud AI work together as part of the operating system.

How much do Googlebook laptops cost?

Googlebook laptops start at $899, with every model including at least 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Google’s initial lineup includes OLED and high-resolution displays, Intel Core Ultra and Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, and battery-life ratings of up to 18 hours depending on the model.

Google is also including 12 months of Google AI Pro with the purchase, along with additional software and subscription benefits.

Is Googlebook different from a Chromebook?

Yes.

Googlebook is positioned as a more premium platform with deeper Android integration, higher-end hardware and Gemini Intelligence built into the desktop experience.

Users can access Android phone files and apps from their Googlebook, continue tasks between devices and use their phone alongside the laptop without traditional file transfers.

That makes Googlebook particularly interesting for Android users who want their phone and laptop to function as one ecosystem.

What does Googlebook mean for AI laptops?

Googlebook shows that laptop manufacturers are increasingly treating AI as part of the operating system rather than an optional feature.

The bigger question is whether Google’s Gemini-first approach can convince buyers to choose Googlebook over Windows AI PCs and Macs.

For users already invested in Android and Gemini, the combination of local AI hardware, cloud AI and phone integration could make Googlebook a compelling alternative. For everyone else, the platform will need to demonstrate enough advantages to justify switching from established laptop ecosystems.

What happens next?

Googlebook laptops are now available, giving users the first opportunity to test Google’s Gemini-first laptop strategy in real-world conditions.

Independent testing of battery life, local AI performance, app compatibility and Gemini features will be important in determining whether Googlebook represents a meaningful new laptop category or simply a more AI-focused Chromebook successor.

The Googlebook launch, pricing, hardware and Gemini features are confirmed by Google’s official announcement and product pages. Independent hands-on coverage confirms the first five models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo are now reaching buyers.
